The model for effective leadership

R-I-S-E® Competence Model

Good leadership is not an innate quality - it can be learned and developed. This requires orientation: about the status quo of one's own leadership quality and about the goal of future development. The focus is no longer on "doing", but on impact - i.e. the effect that leadership has on employees and the organization.

This is precisely where the R-I-S-E® Competence Model comes in. It is based on the proven Leadership Impact Model (according to Lee and Norma Barr) and is specifically designed to make leadership effectiveness visible and customizeable - embedded in strategic processes such as performance management, talent and succession planning and cultural transformation.

The R-I-S-E® Competence Model maps the natural learning path of managers and, at its highest level, describes the personality traits that characterize sustainable leadership. It supports the individual development process through clear, comprehensible behavioral descriptions - practical and compatible with existing HR and leadership systems.

The four levels of the model represent different forms of leadership:

  • R - Roler: improvises, acts situationally and reactively

  • I - Instructor: acts in a standardized and stabilizing manner

  • S - Shaper: designs, integrates and optimizes

  • E - Enabler: acts strategically, reflects and develops others

These levels form a growing repertoire of behavioral options. The higher the level, the broader the spectrum of actions and perspectives with which managers can act effectively. The ascending spiral from R to E symbolizes increasing maturity, foresight and effectiveness.

R-I-S-E® as the foundation for strategic talent and leadership management

The R-I-S-E® Competence Model is ideal for assessing leadership skills, identifying talent and developing managers in a tailored manner. For each company-specific competence, differentiated behavioral anchors can be defined for each R-I-S-E® level. This creates clarity and enables targeted competence management beyond the classic categories of "fulfilled/not fulfilled".

Embedded in our services in the area of Organizational Learning & Leadership, the R-I-S-E® Competence Model is a central instrument for the development of managers, succession planning and the sustainable anchoring of an effective management culture.
